Re: Debian or ubuntu

Ubuntu still has a PPC build maintained by the community. But I don't think they have an XFCE/LXDE specific installer like Debian does. as for Gnash, I had no problems with the Debian package & the Iceweasel plugin package but I've only used it on a G5. I've also not tried the Ubuntu PPC build in a couple of years or more.

Re sound, Ive been looking through the wiki for info on enabling sound on the Mac G5. Has anyone found the solution & if so, did it work?

much thanks,
Gary

I was considering putting Ubuntu on my ibook G4, and I was
wondering: Would the setup for ubuntu be significantly easier than
debian?

Ubuntu used to have a PowerPC version, but I don't think they do now.

Ubuntu has still a not official PowerPC version

I
mean, would installing the system and getting things like wireless
and sound to work be harder in Debian than Ubuntu?

Debian is not really more difficult that Ubuntu IMO.

Erik

Not at all, you need to configure in Ubuntu few things as in Debian,
but Debian is much more stable and light
You may want to install a different DE instead of Gnome - for my iBook
I have Lenny with lxde
