It seems that snes9x is using OSS which is a deprecated sound API. If it
is not possible to persuade it to use ALSA, then you will have to
emulate OSS via either kernel emulation or aoss wrapper (available in
repos as 'alsa-oss'). It has been some time since I had to resort to
that king of tricks so I cannot guide you through it. Read package docs
or google it as it should be pretty straightforward.
