Hi Gaudenz

Thanks for your response.

Some like these seem to reappear:

[ 2424.703052] ieee1394: Node changed: 0-02:1023 -> 0-00:1023
[ 2495.411909] ieee1394: Error parsing configrom for node 0-00:1023
[ 2495.412071] ieee1394: Node changed: 0-00:1023 -> 0-02:1023

Stefan Richter tried more than a year ago to get a FW enclosure
working on that PowerBook5,8 .. it didn't work ... Quite a few threads
on that, IIRC, one of the latest starting here:

That sounds encouraging ...

Perhaps I really should get a new FW enclosure ... Even one of the
latest kernels, IIRC, wasn't able to build a connection from the disk
to the FW port ... I suspect Apple having being down-powered the FW
ports on the alubook. Or simply changed important specs for
them. Because even my old tiBook-IV is able to connect to the same FW
disk, same enclosure ...

Best Regards
Wolfgang
