Thanks Herminio, I have had this problem before while using Debian and 
fixed the problem by copying the etc/network/interfaces file from a 
computer running SimplyMEPIS version 6.0 i386, just yesterday I had the 
same problem with a new install of Skolelinux RC1 and copied the 
interfaces file from a Deb Sid install. It seems you can repair a bad 
interfaces file by replacing it with any kind of good/working Debian or 
Ubuntu interfaces file, PPC or i386 don't seem matter. Your friend.
