  It seems to be ok right now, but in your situation I would advice
you to stay with Etch.  Etch' softwares are still quite recents, and
modifications in Sid are minimized because of the future Etch release,
so I don't undestand which advantage you will get by moving to unstable.

  Right now, Sid seems fine on the iBook, but watch-out once Etch is
officially released as Debian Stable.  And there is no garanteed that
nobody will introduce something that will break it badly in one week
(it is why it is normaly keep a minimum of 10 days in unstable before
going to Etch).

  If you want to test Sid, I would put it on another partition. If you
want to keep all your current settings, you can also make an integral
copy of your existing partitions on the new partitions, adapt the
/etc/fstab and /etc/yaboot.conf entries and make sure your system is
still booting properly between your 2 linux installations.  Then you
can adjust the /etc/apt/source.list entry and do the usual dist-upgrade.

  I have done something like that on my iBook, as I don't want to use
Sid while working.  I hope my comments will be usefull to you,
