Xorg: "Could not init font path element /usr/share/fonts/truetype"

Hi All

On the console a "/etc/init.d/kdm start"crashes the machine as long as
I have /usr/share/fonts/truetype in my xorg.conf. And yes,
/usr/share/fonts/truetype exists, and I ran

mkfondir /usr/share/fonts/truetype - I did the latter to give in to some
X server recommendation:

(==) Log file: "/var/log/Xorg.0.log", Time: Thu May 25 17:21:48 2006

[ .. ]

(WW) `fonts.dir' not found (or not valid) in "/usr/share/fonts/truetype".
        Entry deleted from font path.
        (Run 'mkfontdir' on "/usr/share/fonts/truetype")

Restarting X after the recommended changes then crashes the machine:

(==) Log file: "/var/log/Xorg.0.log", Time: Thu May 25 17:31:58 2006

   [ ... ]

Could not init font path element /usr/share/fonts/truetype, removing from list!
Could not init font path element /usr/share/fonts/X11/TTF/, removing from list!
Could not init font path element /usr/share/fonts/X11/OTF, removing from list!
Could not init font path element /usr/share/fonts/X11/CID/, removing
from list!

[As a side note: the paths to /TTF/ and /OTF do not even *exist* in
xorg.conf, please see the URL to that file, below .. ]

And the server does not start with this last error, instead it crashes
the system: I had to push the Power button to "shut down" the
system/machine

Here's the complete Xorg.log for that last time:

Here's xorg.conf:

http://wolfgangpfeiffer.com/xorg.conf.txt

Please note that in the meantime I have commented the Font Path lines
for /usr/share/fonts/truetype, as well as for
/var/lib/defoma/x-ttcidfont-conf.d/dirs/TrueType for which the server,
when the line was uncommented, also could not "init" the path, what
ever this 'init' may mean ..

Best Regards, and Thanks in anticipation
Wolfgang
