You might take a look at mplayer's "essential-ppc" or "all-ppc" codecs:
http://www.mplayerhq.hu/homepage/design7/codecs.html

I haven't tried it out yet, so I don't know if .asf is supported on ppc. 
 Mplayer will play .asf on x86.
