Re: Xorg and DRI on Pismo

i have a ibook dual usb

g3 500
10gig hdd
airport (classic or whatever. orinoco on a fancy bus)
dual usb (1.1)
single firewire
10/100 ethernet
56kmodem (that only half works... but modem? who cares)
r128 chip also - works fine though.
1024x768
ive also fully upgraded the ram to 643744kb (lol, /proc/meminfo)
which is its inbuilt 128+512 i think. which is a nice amount of
memory
also the battery is still the same as the new g4's - of which i
recently purchased a new one and it gave me a fantastic 5 hours of
battery again.

id go the ibook over the pismo, mine has a cd/dvd combo (no burning
though as far as i can tell). although its not powerfull enough
to play a dvd. ben is working on ati drivers arent you ben?

;) my 2c

I need to dig out my venerable Pismo and have a look...

Are the Pismo's this good that you all mention it with high praises? I
would like to know, since I'd love to substitute a failing x86 notebook
and I'm short of cash...

Ok, some cons then :)

 - They are fairly bulky compared to today notebooks
 - The firewire chip in there stinks
 - The G3 is not that fast, especially if you get the 400Mhz model,
don't expect playing DVDs especially since nobody yet has reverse
engineered the HW decoder stuff in the ATI chip
 - The r128 mobility chips isn't a race horse

Appart from these, it's a good machine, very reliable and quite solid.
Just a bit "old" nowadays ...

Ben.
