root password

Since the debian installer never finished, stopped at the kernel, my root password was never set up, i managed to manually finish it with a ubuntu livecd and chrooting to the debian partition, make a new user and add sudo, and set it up like ubuntu with my user a member of the admin group, and able to use sudo, but is this a security risk, and if so how do I change the root password, or disable the root account, if it's enabled

Thanks in advance,
