Might be a problem with the X server on this machine - if the screen saver
kicks in and starts running code that hangs up your X server, the machine
might power down after a while (the PMU getting confused because the
processor isn't handling its interrupts anymore). Try disabling
xscreensaver (or just those screensaver modules that use GL) to test this.

Caveat: I've not noticed this behavior on PowerPC but ix86, and on that
architecture, the machine just hangs hard instead of powering down. Might
be completely unrelated (and hasn't happened to me in a while now).
