dvd+rw-format error

When running dvd+rw-format /dev/hdc, I'm getting the error:

* DVD±RW/-RAM format utility by <appro@fy.chalmers.se>, version 4.10.
:-( mounted media doesn't appear to be DVD±RW or DVD-RAM

...however, from dvd+rw-mediainfo /dev/hdc I get:

It looks like the media is being picked up as a black DVD-R, rather than
a RW - this may be my misunderstanding though.

Any ideas to write a DVD?
