No. From the sound of it, it definitely seems to be a HW failure. Maybe
the ibook isn't providing enough power to the disk, maybe you have bad
blocks (though you claim that it works on x86 would invalidate that),
but the timings on the driver are the same Apple uses, so I consider
them correct :)
