IIRC, as of 2.6.7 there was a change in the way the kernel handled 
something relating to getting information from the drive - k3b had trouble 
with this, but I think may be fixed in the latest version.  Don't know 
about others, or what's been fixed now and what hasn't yet.  Try it and 
find out - you can always go back down to 2.6.6.  ;^)
