are there the alsa devices in /dev? do you have permission
to use them?

for mixing use alsamixer on the command prompt. its very nice.
the alsa deb file should come with rc scripts that preserve
sound volume etc.

| for first time i'm getting to work 2.6.* on my ibook, exactly 2.6.5.
| i've alsa as modules but without oss compatibility, i've just put:
|
| CONFIG_SOUND=m
| CONFIG_DMASOUND_PMAC=m
| CONFIG_DMASOUND=m
|
| CONFIG_SND=m
| CONFIG_SND_TIMER=m
| CONFIG_SND_PCM=m
|
| CONFIG_SND_POWERMAC=m
|
| i load the modules manually without any problem:
|
| Module Size Used by
| i2c_keywest 11780 0
| snd_powermac 41232 0
| snd_pcm 117496 1 snd_powermac
| snd_page_alloc 13636 1 snd_pcm
| snd_timer 28708 1 snd_pcm
| snd 57192 3 snd_powermac,snd_pcm,snd_timer
| i2c_core 27300 2 i2c_keywest,snd_powermac
| soundcore 11268 1 snd
|
| aumix seems not to work but it says that alsa must have oss
compatibility layer so i've installed gamix.
| gamix says:
| probe.c 40: No ALSA device.
| main.c 44: Can not make mixer.
|
| xmms doesn't work anymore
|
| any ideas ?
|
| thanks :)
