'--added-patches' equal to 'patch_the_kernel=Yes' ??

Hi all,

make-kpkg has the option '--added-patches=patch1,patch2,...,patchN'. I
read somewhere in the internet, that this option used without patch-names
(--added-patches) has the same effect like the entry
'patch_the_kernel=Yes' in 'kernel-pkg.conf' or 'export
PATCH_THE_KERNEL=Yes'. Is this true?
