XFree86 issue with PowerBook G4 15" 1.25GHz ATI Radeon 9600

List,
I have been trying to get XFree86 running on my system for several days. I have been scouring our archives and some others, which has helped me rule out a number of issues. To date, my core issue seems to be that my XFree86 installation does not recognize my video card. I have attempted to capture all of my pertinent information in an organized manner so that some of the more experienced members might be able to provide me with insight. I have attached the larger text files as .gz archives to keep things as concise as possible. Upon launching startx, I get the customary 3 blinks and then the error. I have disable xdm in runlevel 2 to avoid the three blinks on boot.

Problem:
X does not successfully start; "no devices detected"

Additional Information:
- Radeon frame buffer support is compiled into the kernel
- The "video=radeonfb" parameter is being passed to the kernel at boot
- It is not desired to use the "UseFBDev" option that disables the external video
- I do not know a valid chipset ID to specify in the XF86Config file
- The kernel in use is a benh-2.6.5-rc2 custom-compiled kernel
- The blinking cursor in console mode is never a full rectangle; it's a weird pixel pattern roughly resembling the rectangle - When a keystroke brings the display out of standby mode, sometimes the console text goes crazy, looking like the sync is messed up
- The "out of sync" condition also happens on boot up now and then.

Attached file list:
config.gz - The current kernel configuration file
dmesg.txt.gz - The entire output of 'dmesg'
XF86Config-4.gz - The current XF86Config-4 file
