well there is:
pbbcmd config GOTOSLEEP 1
put it in a shell script if you like.

well, I never had system freezes because of pbbuttonsd and ... however
it did/does trigger kernel bugs (e.g. there is one in 2.6.4 which is
easily triggered using pbbuttonsd)
