2.6.1-rc1-ben1 xfreezes (maybe xscreensaver)

hello list,

i encountered a strange problem this morning:

SETUP:
ibook g3 900 cdr
kernel 2.6.1-rc1-ben1
debian sarge
xscreensaver 4.14 (25 October 2003)

xscreesaver picture was frozen no keybordinput (switch to console, kill
xserver) accepted, only power off

after that boot hangs at loading alsa keywest

problem was alsa workaround for 2.6.1-test..
install snd-powermac /sbin/modprobe -i snd-powermac ; ( /sbin/modprobe
-ir i2c-keywest && /sbin/modprobe -i i2c-keywest )
after i removed that line in /etc/modprobe/alsa
boot was working again

then for lunch i left the office when i came back:

xscreesaver picture was frozen no keybordinput (switch to console, kill
xserver) accepted, only power off

but boot was working

I had a look in some log files (kern.log syslog xfree messages) but
couldnt find anything suspicious.

thought maybe glx screensaver could be the problem but glx gears doesnt
reproduce the failure.

when xscreensaver starts to fade and i use mouse or keybord error isnt
reproduced (checked several times)

now just gave xscreensaver 30 minuts (then normally comes backlights of)
and i couldnt reproduce error

now sent ibook to sleep cannot reproduce

i had problems with mail yesterday (couldnt send) and this morning again
freeze.

the hd-light was blinking, i'm not sure if processes are running or just
untill freeze happens (exim 7:12, /var/log/messages 7:27 --MARK--- (?))
btw found freeze 7:43 alsa alarm plugin should've started 7:15 but didnt

well i dont know how to reproduce it. anybody seen this, anybody any
ideas how to reproduce/debug it (logs dont give interesting info except
maybe these --MARK--- in messages dont know what that is)

what makes it furthermore strange that i didnt really change anything
since the last boot before i encountered it for the first time.

thx flo

the logs are rather useless since i cannot see anything suspicous but i
pasted them rather for my own forensics so why delete them maybe ive
overseen sth.
