IDE + CDRW

I have a strange behaviour with my ibook 800.
When accessing the cdrom (both reading and writing) the system hangs,
until the cdrom has finished.
Anybody has this kind of problem? I don't know what to do.
The first time I try to use the cd after the boot, it waits a little,
then output this

Oct 6 09:15:52 ice kernel: scsi : aborting command due to timeout : pid
4, scsi0, channel 0, id 0, lun 0 0x00 00 00 00 00 00
Oct 6 09:15:52 ice kernel: hdb: DMA disabled
Oct 6 09:15:52 ice kernel: hdb: ATAPI reset complete

And when writing, the buffer goes out, giving me a buffer underrun,
because it can't access the hd
