There's a large chip on the board that says:
"3D Rage Pro AGP 2x
21543BUA22"
The Product number on back of the board says:
P/N 1024262022 ... the rest doesn't seem to matter
as far as ATI product identification is concerned.
The board itself says it was made in 1997.
Now, since the chip said "3D Rage Pro AGP 2x" I
assumed it was a rage pro card. But I couldn't
find a card matching my P/N at the ATI site that was
built for macs. (It was pulled from a PowerMac
9600). The best I could find was one called a
NexusGA made around that time. It could, though, be
a Xclaim3D. Additionally, my card does have a
smaller chip that says "Nexus GA 42601" on it.
But then the kernel seem to recognize it
as a Mach64 card. X however recognizes it as both a
ATI 3D Rage Pro and a Mach64, witness the X log:
(--) ATI(0): ATI 3D Rage Pro graphics controller
detected.
....
(--) ATI(0): ATI Mach64 adapter detected.
However, r128 X driver does not work on this card
and reports "No devices detected".
As far as the kernel is concerned. Both the atyfb
and aty128fb framebuffer don't work at all on this
card. Forget I ever said that the console worked
with the card and X was just the problem.

Correct. My mistake. its 4.1.0.1 to be exact, the
default woody X server.

Yep, last night, depth 16, 15, 8 don't work at all
and the monitor flashes "Signal Out of Range". Its
only Depth 24 that manages to produce a signal, but
a cross hatched picture.

Oh yeah, I've tried and I get nothing. Sorry, but
everytime I have ever run X for the last 4 years, I have
always had to use custom modes.

Yep, I know. The card docs say that this is
impossible as well. No, I had intended to run
monitor off of /chaos/control (the 7500 built in
video) and the other, larger, monitor over the ati
card.
Additionally, I thought I would say that, even
though I cannot get a console or a X session using
this ati connected to my Dell monitor, this isn't
a problem with the card itself because 1) it behaves
great on the MacOS and 2) I have three of these
cards and they all behave the same way on X.
Any ideas, or should I just sell the cards on
e-bay?
