Xboing: no sound, missing soundIt.h
Hi all,
Kernel: 2.4.21-ben2
Hardware: Powerbook3.5 (version = 3.2)
Actually this mail is on 2 problems:
1. The sound problem with xboing and
2. The general sound problems I have here.
Details:
When trying to start xboing I get this:
$xboing -sound
XBoing - Please wait [ ... ] User, initialising xboing ...
No access to sound device: Permission denied
Can't init soundIt library. yech..
XBoing - Warning: Audio unavailable or not supported.
Is soundIt part of the kernel? Or is it a loadable module?
At any rate, I found it nowhere on my system.
>From what I learned so far, it's probably a driver xboing is looking for:
I found something like that here:
http://www.lookbuysell.net/web/astroids/sast1.5/soundIt/
And this page (I definitely don't understand what they're talking about there
.. ):
<http://cvs.kitenet.net/joey-cvs/public/packages/xboing/audio/Attic/soundIt.h?hideattic=0>
And:
I have generally a problem with sound here which does not get loaded after
booting:
/etc/modutils/sound
:
---------------------------
alias char-major-14 soundcore
alias sound-slot-0 dmasound_pmac
alias char-major-14-3 dmasound_pmac
alias /dev/dsp dmasound_pmac
--------------------------------
I didn't add the i2c-keywest driver there because it's part of the kernel
(config file below).
This is an excerpt of what I have in my kernel .config file
(full length on <http://www.geocities.com/wolfgangpfeiffer/config-2.4.21-ben2.txt>) :
-------------------------------------
CONFIG_I2C=y
# CONFIG_I2C_ALGOBIT is not set
CONFIG_I2C_ALGOPCF=m
CONFIG_I2C_ELEKTOR=m
CONFIG_I2C_KEYWEST=y
CONFIG_I2C_CHARDEV=m
CONFIG_I2C_PROC=m
-----------------------------------
But after booting I have to manually load sound:
modprobe dmasound_pmac
After this I can hear at least the error signal on a console or xterm when
pressing at an empty shell prompt the BackSpace key.
RealPlayer: no sound, too. It says:
"Cannot open the audio device. Another application may be using it"
Does someone see an obvious mistake in my configs?
Thanks in anticipation.
Best Regards,
Wolfgang
