I believe I was the one who mentioned quik in this thread, so I'll
explain. It is a bootloader that can be started directly from the
ROM on early PCI PowerMacs. At first, that was actually the only
way to boot those machines into Linux. Basically, the firmware
is configured to boot directly off of a partition as a raw block
device, and it loads quik, which has been put into the first couple
blocks of that partition. After quik is loaded, it finds the correct
kernel in the filesystem, loads it into memory, and starts it.
The only problem with this is that it only works on a limited set
of machines. I wasn't paying attention when I replied before to
what hardware you had. There is no way quik will ever be supported
on a NuBus model, so your 7100 will never be able to use quik.
