So far, so good.

Someone else had the same (or at least a very similar) problem with the
radeon driver, and while we haven't been able to determine the exact
cause, these facts may at least give you some ideas for things to try:

      * he started with the dri-trunk packages (built with gcc 2.95) on
        a 2.4 kernel (built with gcc 3.2), which showed the problem
      * it didn't occur with a 2.2 kernel (probably built with gcc
        2.95), but rebuilding the 2.4 kernel with gcc 2.95 didn't help
      * rebuilding the dri-trunk packages with gcc 3.2 fixed it
