I guess no. The 9600 is a radeon of the R3xx family, and as thus is not
supported by the free DRI drivers (only upto Radeon 9200). ATI provides
proprietary drivers for the more recent chips, but sadly doesn't provide
a powerpc build. I think this is in part because we cannot count
ourself, and also because the developper working on it cost them money
which will only be offset by numbers of boards sold over 100000 or
something such. At least that was what the NVidia people tell, i have
some doubt myself that it would cost all that much to do a ppc rebuild
though, but then maybe their code is an endianess nightmare or something
such.
