Can't set XMMS audio volume on 8500
It seems that moving the volume control slider in XMMS on my Mac 8500 has no
effect.
The GUI shows the volume percentage changing, but the volume of the actual
sound in my headphones remains unchanged.
I'm not entirely sure the sound is set up right on my 8500. I'm not able to
get any sound from the built-in speaker. The sound does work from the
headphone jack. It seems to me that I should have esd running all the time but
ps doesn't find it. Perhaps someone can point me to a guide to getting sound
properly configured on a PowerPC Mac linux system.
The 8500 is an "AV" model of Mac. It has quite good quality sound hardware
built-in, and also has built-in video in/out. It was intended by Apple for
multimedia production. I find the sound card on my PC to be pretty crappy,
with noticable noise generated by the sound card both on playback and recorded
in audio files when I capture sound, but I'm not able to detect such noise when
I either play or capture sound on my Mac.
Thanks for your help,
Mike
