Just tried that. I checked on another console constantly for when the CD 
was mounted. I select 'Install kernel and driver modules' and at that 
stage it was not mounted. It detected a CD rom with packages and at 
thatb dialog is wasn't mounted then pressing enter and it starts to load 
stuff. Then its mounted but within 20 seconds its got what it wants and 
its unmounted :-( and I have lost my chance.

I have OSX on there so I presume that is HFS+ I also have a small DOS 
partition. I'll read up on booting as you suggested below.

Yeah I can access /etc/yaboot.conf as I can mount my old Linux partition
as /dev/hda11 from a shell after booting from CD1.

I also tried again command-option-p-r and let it beep thrice - no luck 
still.
