There are some logging options you can enable in BootX settings
which may give you a better clue about what is happening. Have you
tried with the no-video-driver box checked?

It would also be helpful to know what model machine this is,
like the output of cat /proc/pci and cat /proc/cpuinfo from
within an installer shell.
