That's a very good question. Does anyone here have an
answer?

8 MB should be plenty for a 32 bpp 1024x768 double-buffered
display (1024 x 768 x 32 / 8 / 1024 / 1024 = 3 MB, for 2
buffers (front and back) that's 6 MB required).
