There are no guarantees, but Debian upgrades tend to be smooth. :)

You may even want to keep the stable security line.

If the same thing happens with dist-upgrade, try

apt-get install xlibmesa-dev-dri-trunk xlibmesa3-dri-trunk

and see what the problem is.
