Check out either locate or find.

$ locate XF86Config-4
/etc/X11/XF86Config-4
/usr/X11R6/man/man5/XF86Config-4.5x.gz

"find / -name XF86Config-4" would do the same thing.

locate searches for files in a database which is updated every night,
find actually looks at what's on your disk. locate is therefore much
faster, while find is much more flexible. (check the manpage for it to
see what I mean!)
