Actually, I think it told you something along the lines that it couldn't
find a Section "Device" matching your graphics chip.
The reason why it normally isn't necessary to specify a bus ID on i386
is that the X server assigns such a Section "Device" to the primary
adapter, i.e. the one the BIOS came up on. On powerpc, the server is
able to determine the primary adapter on some machines, but not on
others, for no obvious reason.
