airport card on iBook2

Trying to connect my iBook2 running Debian to my Netgear MR314 access
point. I did the following:

Edited my /etc/network/interfaces to include

iface eth1 inet dhcp
	wireless_essid	"*****"
	wireless_nick	******

Then:

modprobe airport
modprobe orinoco
modprobe hermes

apt-get install wireless-tools

Following this, I did ifup eth1 and got 7 DHCPDISCOVER on eth1 messages
prior to eth1 going to sleep.

iwconfig eth1 gives me:

eth1 IEEE 802.11-DS ESSID:"*****" Nickname:"******"
          Mode:Managed Frequency:2.412GHz Access Point:
00:30:AB:1A:F5:6B
          Bit Rate:11Mb/s Tx-Power=15 dBm Sensitivity:1/3
          Retry limit:4 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
          Encryption key:6465-626F-6F6B-0000-0000-0000-00
          Power Management:off
Link Quality:49/92 Signal level:-46 dBm Noise level:-95 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:8 Rx invalid frag:0
          Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

Am I missing some step somewhere? BTW, encryption and connection
filtering are both not enabled on the access point.

Thanks
Bill
