I decided to test out external video again today on my iBook2 500, which has Rage Mobility M3 in it. After starting X4.2 (Branden's testing packages) and then going back into console mode m3mirror gave a steady picture on the display (it used to wobble around), although there was some cruft on the bottom. In X the external monitor had a 640x480x8 display, with palette corruption, while the LCD had 1024x768x16 with no corruption. Switching back into console mode I can see a little of the X video display remaining at the bottom of the CRT screen. Console mode worked OK on the external monitor for framebuffer depths of 1 through 8, but corrupted (went twice size) for depth 16. The good news seems to be the steady picture. Before I get my hopes up too much, is this representative of progress being made, or is it as far as I'll get? :) With as ever grateful thanks to Ben, Michel and everyone else working hard on PowerPC. -- Edd
