Exactly. The problem still occurs, but the USB doesn't hang any longer.
It's not in a clean state after the error and the SCSI USB device is
considered as corrupt, but if I umount it, disconnect the device, rmmod
usb-storage and connect the device again I can start the transfer
again... Not very clean, but could be a temporary workaround...

I have tried, but the only x86 platform I can use for this test is an
old Pentium 150 Mhz on which I had never used the USB before. The result
is worse than on my iBook: there is a hang and not only does the USB
hang, but the computer is completely frozen... Given the box on which I
have done the test, I am not sure that it's very significant, though...
