im guessing you are using a benh kernel, or something that is 2.4.* cvs.
basically i configure it like this:

	Sound

  x x<*> Sound card support x x
  x x<*> PowerMac DMA sound support x x

< snip >

  <*> OSS sound modules x x
  [*] Verbose initialisation x x
  [*] Persistent DMA buffers

i think tuomas (tigert) does this too.
