well actually you can, I wont gurantee that it will work (I never tried it)
however put 

DPkg
{
   Options {"--force-downgrade"}
}

into /etc/apt/apt.conf

then on a potato apt source do apt-get update and apt-get dist-upgrade

in theory it should work
