its possible on OldWorlds when you use quik, with NewWorlds its almost
possible, you have to have an 800K type Apple_Bootstrap partition for
the bootlaoder to be installed onto for those to boot.  that is due to
a limitation of the firwmare, it won't load a normal bootblock.  

the bootstrap partition is not mounted anywhere, does not contain
kernels and does not need to be manipulated by you directly in any
way. you just maintain /etc/yaboot.conf and rerun ybin on changes to
the bootloader.  much like lilo.  kernels are loaded directly off your
ext2 / filesystem.
