The on-disk format is the same on all systems, including SGI IRIX ones. You can
actually use a disk straight from an IRIX box and use the XFS filesystems on
your linux box. The mkfs.xfs creates an XFS v2 partition format by default, so
if you want to take a disk from a linux box and drop it in an IRIX one, you
need to make sure that it was created with v1 format.
