You didn't build your 2.2.19 kernel with 'boot off board devices
first' by any chance, did you? Anyway, there are arguments to the
kernel that you can use to specify the order that each device gets
booted. I don't know what they are off hand, but I bet they can be
found in the documentation ~:^) First, I would build my kernels
w/o support for the 53C94 if you aren't using it, and I wouldn't use
it if I had an adaptec PCI card. Heh. Then I would suggest setting
'boot off board devices first' in your 2.4.4 kernel to match your
2.2 kernel.

You have to select USB support, USB HID, events, and I think that's
it. When I built my 2.4 kernel, it was all automatically selected
before I got there. I didn't mention keyboard and mouse because
when you select USB HID those should automatically be selected too.
There are a couple of messages in the archives about how to do this,
but they might be 2.2 related.
