newwer yaboots let you manually load an image.

the symlink was created on potato r2.

see my earlier mail, you not running mkofboot properly.

then its because you left out --partition and/or --device ultra1:

you should NEVER EVER put kernels on the bootstrap partition.  you
never need to, you only need to read documnetation and run mkofboot
*CORRECTLY*

again see my earlier mail yaboot is failing because you left out
--device

the documentation says this is required for any disk other then
/dev/hda.
