yes, potato r2 CDs are bootable on all NewWorld PowerMacs, except for
some of the most recently released G4s, such as the TiBook.

they should boot like any MacOS CD, by holding down the C key.

the first CD is an HFS/ISO9660 hybrid filesystem it should be readable
without any trouble on MacOS, not that there is any need to read the
CDs from MacOS. you cannot use BootX on NewWorlds. the rest of the
CDs are straight ISO9660 i believe.

if you are having problems booting them, first i would suggest
resetting the nvram of your machine by cold booting it while holding
down `command option p r' until it reboots 3 or more times. then try
holding down the C key again. you should get a yaboot prompt. if not
i would say your CDs are defective. (or your machine is too new, but
this should not be the case for the pismo)

if you can't read the first CD from MacOS either MacOS is very broken
or the CD is again defective. there is a somewhat special procedure
required for making newworld bootable CDs, if its not followed
correctly they won't boot.
