not from my experience.  once you make pmac_config your screwed, i had
to reextract the source tree to undo that change and reenable
.config.  otherwise it was quite consistently ignored/tampered with.  

make pmac_config is BROKEN, ever since i stopped EVER running that
command my ppc config problems have vanished, and i have built several
kernels for this G3 all work quite nicely.
