Motif is old, not very nice looking, more difficult to use than Gtk+ (well for
the programmer). Also you don't get a free implementation easily, thus you
need to provide static binaries (as netscape does) or hope the user paid for
motif.

Well, Gtk+ and Gnome are two different things. Gtk+ is mainly C, but has
binding in many languages, including C++. See www.gtk.org for more details.

There is a windows port of gtk+, i managed to get gimp running under windows
two years ago with it, it did not find my home directory though an quited.
