``Missing charsets in String to FontSet conversion'' errors

Hmm.

So I ran apt-get update and apt-get upgrade today, and now when I
start xdvi (on a DVI file) or gv (on a PostScript file) I get the
following warnings:

Warning: Missing charsets in String to FontSet conversion
Warning: Unable to load any usable fontset

>From what I can tell from the results of a Google search, this
error seems to be associated with X support for Japanese (and
maybe other Asian languages). Since I wasn't seeing this error
message before today, I'm assuming it's caused by one of the
packages that was upgraded; of those, the suspicious ones are

   base-config
   base-files
   xfree86-common

with xfree86-common being the most suspicious. But I can't see
anything obvious in the configuration files contained in these
packages.

Is anyone else seeing these warning messages? If I'm wrong about
these packages, any idea where they're really coming from? And
will they be fixed in time (e.g., if there are additional packages
that haven't been built yet, but will be within the next couple of
days) or should I file a bug report?

Thanks,

   CMC
