Xpmac neither needs nor uses XF86Config.  If there is a problem with Xpmac when you
boot w/ a video driver, the problem has nothing to do with XF86Config.

If you are trying to use XFree86 and it doesn't work with a video driver, then the
problem is probably your XF86Config.  How to fix it depends on if you are using pre
v4 or not.

If you are using a version earlier than 4, you need to play with Xconfigurator or
Xautoconfig, check the list archives for a lot of information.
If version 4, then it will be more complicated (depending on how you look at it); but
it shouldn't be happening (as the vmodes are automagically determined....)
