Double check the unix settings...
> --> ls -l /dev/sda
> brw-rw---- 1 root disk 8, 0 Feb 2 18:12 /dev/sda
as well as
> --> ls -l /mnt

> drwxrwxrwx 2 root cdrom 1024 Jan 24 12:06 dvd
