thank you, that was the problem indeed. now, i got:
 Linux pokraka 2.3.52 #3 Tue Mar 21 03:04:37 CET 2000 ppc unknown

but  then, another problem:  i started  the computer  with this kernel
(that's  yesterdays rsync from linuxcare), got  mp3 playing and wanted
to compile another kernel with some other stuff. now, after "make dep"
it shows me:
[blah blah blah]
illegal instruction

what can cause that? i've tried "make dep" several times, every time
the error appeared in different place. if you want to take a look at

i don't have that problem with 2.2.12 (from distribution).

is there another magic thing except the serial ports i'm missing?
