If you have a serial cable available, you could try to see how far into
booting it gets; presumably you wouldn't see anything, though, if quik
is the problem.

Well, I would recommend looking through the FAQ-O-MATIC.  I don't
remember the address, but the archive for this list
(http://www.debian.org/ has a link to that) should contain the address.
