installing?

I noticed there are a bunch of files in the disks-powerpc directory in
unstable (sid).  is there a reccommended way of installing other than
using the base tar file directly?  Using the tar file is no problem, but
is there a newer version I could use, as the base2_1.tgz is pretty old?

I'm doing a demo for the local linux users group tonight on how to rebuild
your kernel, so I'd like to have a working machine soon, :)
