The conclusion of the thread here is that it has no harmful effect, as
indeed would be expected.  It's obviously slightly ugly in the source.

Where have you seen this ?  What was the reaction of the maintainers
when you sent a patch to clean it up ?

Policy is not a place to list every possible bug, let alone every
possible slight ugliness in the source code.  The point is to set
common technical standards so that everything works well together, and
to help avoid common bug patterns by documenting them.
